An internet filter is software that allows the internet viewer to block out certain websites that they do not want to watch. It is like having a water filter to take away the bad things. Most of the time parents/guardians get internet filters when children are going to be on the internet. A benefit of having the filters is that it not only blocks out certain websites, but can also control who the children are communicating with and control how long they are on the computer for.
Internet filters are used not only by parents, but also by schools. Schools can now block certain websites such as Twitter or Facebook when students are at school. Businesses can block their employees as well from using the internet access found at work for other things besides work. Spam can also be blocked from going to an inbox. Internet filters can do many things for a computer anymore if they are needed.
